The 2017 BHA NZ SOTY Trail Leg 3D Tournament is in the books. We had wonderful weather both days, 150 total shooters, and had a blast with our archery family. We met some incredible people for the first time.
Here are the scores broken down by class. The Scores appear as score.number of 12 rings.
At the beginning of each class score list, there is a number of payout positions in Parentheses.
I.E. Bow Novice (4)
Checks will be mailed to each person in each Payout Qualifying Class.
All awards for qualifying classes will be at the ASA State Tournament and we will bring the remaining plaques to the BHA State Tournament at the end of the season. Please PM Chris Vainrib with all questions concerning awards and payouts.
We want to thank some very special people. For without them, this tournament would not have been possible. Jamey and Amanda Adams, James Hornbuckle and GRABOW Outdoors, Oak Mountain State Park, James Henderson, Jimmy Chavers, Billy, Sabrina, Danielle, and Devin Chapman, Teresa, Abigail, and Chloe Vainrib, and Walker Cox.
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting this year’s NZ SOTY 3D Tournament. We hope you enjoyed shooting with us as much as we enjoyed having you come shoot with us.
See you all on the range soon.

I guess I am not understanding all I need to here. It’s a well known fact that up to five shooters pays out 1 but I never heard of not being paid out at all because they had fewer than 5 shootets

My question is who keeps the money for the classes that had four or less shooters in it? They paid extra to shoot just like the ones that had five or more in their class.

Tammy et Al,

According to page 1 of the the BHA 2017 Rules of Competition found at this link

https://bowhuntersofalabama.or…..page_id=22

Awards and Payout rules are below. This is on the BHA Website and these are the rules governing the SOTY tournaments sent to me from the Executive Board prior to the tournament starting. Please read below and let me know if there are any questions. Thanks for asking for this clarification as I am sure others may have the same question.

I am happy to help in any way I can.

BHA RULES OF COMPETITION 2017

For anything NOT covered below, please refer to

ASA Shooters Association 2017 Rules of Competition located at

http://www.asaarchery.com/rule…..tour-rules

GENERAL RULES:

A. Only BHA Chapters, with current liability insurance will hold BHA sanctioned

tournaments.

B. Rangefinder use is allowed on known distance targets.

C. During tournaments all classes will follow the same format for known and unknown

distance competition as they do in ASA Pro/Ams.

D. Start times may be “casual” with shooting groups (arranged by class or otherwise

mixed) or “shotgun” with assigned shooting times and stakes. The host chapter or

organization has the right and responsibility to delay or cancel a tournament in

case of severe weather. In the event weather shortens the competition, results and

awards will be based on a round completed by the class or other fair means

decided upon by the host chapter. The method of determination will be announced

prior to dismissal of competitors and any grievances will be filed in the form of a

protest.

E. ALL participants shall wear non-offensive clothing. All clothing shall completely

cover any undergarments regardless of age of the participants. ASA Pro/Am

clothing guidelines are recommended, but not required.

F. Prior to the start of competition the host chapter will provide shooters with any

necessary information particular to the course before they proceed to their first

target.

G. Slower groups must let faster groups pass them to maintain the pace of shooting.

No group may hold up other groups during a tournament.

AWARDS/PAYOUTS

A. Hosting Chapters shall be responsible for all awards/payouts (if applicable) for

local tournaments, SOYT Legs and State Championship.

B. Any class with 4 or less shooters, there will be no award/payout for that Payout

Eligible class. (see classes chart)

C. Hosting Chapters may elect not to do awards for local shoots BUT shall make a

post 1 week prior on the BHA website Forum for 3D Tournaments to advise

competitors that the will be no awards.

Again, I am happy to answer any questions I can. If I do not know the answer and there is no clear answer, then I will pose the questions at the next BHA Board Meeting on Sunday after the State Tournament and will provide clarification once I get the information.

All the Best,

Chris Vainrib

And still my question is who keeps the extra money? Are you going to give it back to the ones that weren’t fortunate enough to have five or more in their class or is the club just going to pocket the money and say oh well tough luck.

I intend no disrespect when I ask these questions, just trying to understand how this works. I had no idea about the 4 or less shooters. I know one shooter who shot central zone leg was only one in his class and got paid so I’m sure you can understand my confusion.

St. Clair County would like to apologize for any inconvenience in regards to the Payout Schedule and the confusion about the Rules as Stated in the BHA 2017 Rules of Competition. Our intention was only to follow the rules as written and not to cause any confusion. In an effort to clear up any confusion I made phone calls to the The BHA Tournament Director, and the BHA President. St. Clair County will be amending the rules used for the 2017 North Zone SOTY 3D tournament held this weekend at Oak Mountain State Park, and adjusting the payout schedules accordingly.

Since there are varying ways that the shooters understand the rules that govern the payout classes, St. Clair County will be adhering to the payout distribution schedule used for the 2017 Trail Shoot Season, and not the 2017 BHA Rules of Competition governing payouts as they are written.

Below you will find an amended payout schedule. If you participated in a payout class, regardless of the number of shooters, first place will be paid out at a minimum.

Please review the amended payout schedule and let me know if there are any questions.

Again, St. Clair County was adhering to the Rules of Competition as written and posted, as this is what we thought was supposed to be done. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused any shooter, as this was definitely not the intention. We thank each and every one of you for coming out to support the BHA and St. Clair County and participating in the 2017 NZ SOTY Trail Shoot tournament this weekend.

Feel free to contact me in the event there are any questions or further clarification is needed.

I would like to encourage any shooter and any BHA member to attend the August Board meeting that will be held on Sunday after the State Championship this year. The Rules as written governing payouts and awards will be addressed and clarified at this meeting.

Thank you all for your understanding has we have tried to work though this lack of clarity as fast as we possibly could. We were adhering to the Rules as Written, but we worked hard and fast to clear up any misunderstandings. Thanks again for your patience, and let us know if there are any further questions.
