Minutes for the August Board Meeting
BHA Board Meeting Minutes
8/11/2024
James Hornbuckle welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.
Phil Carters said prayer.
Shane Bates read Article II.
Minutes were presented, printed and posted to the website. Charmen McAlpine motioned to approve
as published. Connie Crew 2nd.
Financial Report was presented, printed. A question was asked about additional balance listed clarified
that it the PayPal balance not bank balance. Mike McAlpine motioned to approve as published. Wes
Patterson 2nd.
Zone and Chapter Report
Heritage – Averaged about 80 shooters, no complaints, several people asked about a fall shoot
Peach Pit – Lower number, averaged about 50 shooters, 55 for Central Zone Championship, Picked up
Lee County shoot
Talladega – Good year, good turnout for Trail Shoot. Picked up Lee County shoot and getting ready for
next year
St. Clair – Good shoot about 70 shooters on Average. City of Ashville heling with a new range aiming to
use in 2025
Jefferson – Good year, Aveaged 60-70 shooters, had great qualifier, having to pay for property now and is
looking for a new place
WCO- Good year, good Trail Shoot.
Chelsea- Good Year, averaged 70 shooters, Range was changed up and city is adding to budget to buy
new range
Panhandle – good year, over 100 at State Shoot, average 80-85 shooters, Reopened shooting tower
Gum Creek – new club, no events yet, has been working with NASP in the area
Crenshaw – great year, better turn out this year
Blount – doing great, updating targes
Southern Zone – doing good, growing, and numbers are up. NZ and CZ don’t trail as much as SZ
Central Zone – all chapters had a good year, Lee County is still working on it, good even with low
attendance
Norther Zone – all clubs doing great had a real good year
Social Media – Katie Skinner, stepping down
Editor Report/Political Report/UDCP Report – Nathan Worthington –
UDCP currently not properties, but had had inquiries regarding hunting
CAB Meeting – no shift in the way they are managing wildlife. Per DNR enough room for Bowhunters to
hunt with gun hunters.
Merchandise – Wes Patterson got rid of old shirts, sold a lot of new shirts, found hats, currently taking
new ideas, wants to sell jerseys, will need to pre-order, truck stickers, circle decal. Phenix has a new
vendor for jerseys.
Awards –Sandra Patterson – Awards went well this year, checking on buckles.
Tournament Director –James Hornbuckle – Everything good this year, not many issues other than a few
clubs not being safe – try to spread out targets
ASA Report – James Hornbuckle – Really good year, 1300 SOY entries, State at Heritage was great.
Qualifiers next year will be $30. If hosting shoot or shooting you must be an active member. If not a
member scores will not count. Everyone will get a roster, and members can renew at the qualifier.
Better communication on rules.
Webmaster – Shane Bates – issues accessing on phones, must be an active BHA member to post on
website
Bowmania- James Hornbuckle – Things went good with the additional booth, 60 new memberships, 145
rounds shot. Wes donated 2-day hunt for new members. We are booked for next year Took note of
thing to do to for next year, may consider a BHA-Hunter only membership, need volunteers for
committee.
Draw Down – 9/7 at Pell City Civic Center. Returned unsold tickets to Wes or Sandra. Need to sell at least
225, the club that sells the most will get $500., Help needed at Drawdown, need door prizes and
everything turned in by 8/24/2024.
NASP State Shoot – Jeff Boland and Sandra Patterson took care of 2024. Looking forward to 2025, Dates
will be 4/3/2025 and 4/4/2025. Also need volunteers for Committee
New Business
• Sell and Replace Targets proposed by James Hornbuckle, Motion to approve by Charmen
McAlpine, 2nd by Mike, no one opposed
• MembershipWorks proposed by Ginger Boland, motion to approve Mike, 2nd Charmen McAlpine,
no one opposed
• Awards/Merchandise Committee to generate ideas and keep each other accountable.

• Change yardage for Traditional shooters from 25-yard to 20-yard max proposed by Zone
Directors, motion to Approve Jeff Boland, 2nd Wes Patterson, no one opposed
• Set shoot times for trail shoots instead of casual start. (i.e., 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm) Staged
times to help create groups. Suggest doing a trail shoot trial run. Tabled to 2025

• Motion to modify May minutes to include State Range Discussion, approved by Charmen

• Chester Suttles Memorial Award – vote passed 8/2023 to establish – Charmen and Mike are still
working on the requirements. Want to make sure they have it right to honor Chester
