Board Meeting
Heritage Range – Hanceville, AL
August 28, 2022

James Hornbuckle welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order.
Chester Suttle led us in prayer.
James Hornbuckle made an announcement in order to help facilitate a prompt meeting. Raise hand for questions, you have two minutes to talk and if there is a need for more discussion the issue will be pushed till the end of the meeting for the conversation to continue.
Shane Bates read Article 2.

Minutes from the May Board Meeting were presented, printed, and posted to the website. Wes Patterson made a motion to accept as published. Tamara Sharpe seconded. Vote—Minutes accepted as published.

Financial Report presented. We are doing our last deposits with PNC Bank to make sure everything for the end of this year clears. After everything clears the move to Regions will be made and the PNC bank account will be closed. Motion accepted by George Shumway. Chester Suttle seconded. Financial Report and Update accepted.

James Hornbuckle asks if any new chapter are present. Clubs came prepared to be recognized but will also be voted on at the first board meeting next year in February 2023.
• James Smith wants to establish another club in Chilton County (Central Zone). Has to have Chilton Co. Chapter approval. The issue was discussed at length and concluded with the recognition to establish Peach Pit Archery Club as a new chapter in the Central Zone. They will be presenting insurance, bank account information, and memberships at the February 2023 board meeting and voted on again for acceptance.
• Morgan County/West Park Club was recognized to be established in the Northern Zone. Northern Zone voted to recognize them. West Park Club will be presenting insurance, bank account information, and memberships at the February 2023 board meeting and voted on again for acceptance.
• Lee County would like to be reinstalled. They have 120 acres for range availability and should be complete by October. No one against, passed. Reinstated Lee County to Central Zone.

Zone Reports:
• Northern Zone: Kaleigh Backstrom couldn’t make it, but she did send her report. Everything went well. Kayleigh will be stepping down for next year because of her busy schedule with school and we wish her best of luck!
• Central Zone: Daniel Blubaugh really got thrown the position halfway (if not later) through the season, so we thank him for taking that over and doing all he did when he was really unprepared. Central Zone Championship had a small turnout but hopeful for next year!
• Southern Zone: Phenix Crews explained the year wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. Overall, participation was low.

Chapter Reports:
• Heritage: Shooting attendance was down. The State shoot and banquet went well. Had a good year overall. Downsizing targets with a lot on sale during state shoot with a plan to buy new targets next year.
• Talladega: Not terrible, not great. 51 shooters for the Central Zone Championship. Attendance is low. Will be changing the range next year.
• Tuscaloosa: We did good. 3 shoots, our first one being highest attendance. Overall not a bad year.
• Panhandle: Attendance is low. Panhandle 50 went very well! Did a traditional only shoot that had some good participation.
• Jefferson: Had 3 shoots, decent attendance. AL ASA State shoot had good attendance.
• St. Clair: First year hosting shoots. Hosted 2 shoots that went well. Some catch ups being new, but know better for next year.
• Chilton: Low attendance, a lot of schedule problems. S3DA shoot had a good turnout. ASTB and Traditional only shoot had 47 shooters. Good feedback for the ASTB shoot and are planning to do it again next year with more advertisement. The dam on the lake has been fixed so members can now shoot and fish.
• Chelsea: First shoot had about 100 shooters. After that attendance went down. Excited for next year.
• Crenshaw: Hosted 4 shoots, all had low attendance. New club so still learning. Hoping to get some more support and help from other clubs to help boost attendance and learn the ropes.
• Blount: Hosted 3 shoots, decent attendance but still low. Got a Facebook page, so everyone go like!

Editor Report — James thanked Larry McAfee for all his hard work with special recognition of the banner he created for Bowmania talking about the history of BHA. James asked Larry, Chester, and George to try and get together so they can write down some big history and other events that would be neat to put on the website and really showcase what we do and who we are.

Political Report — Nathan Worthington went to the CAB meetings in March and May, He explained they talked a lot about CWB in the deer populations. There were 2 confirmed cases in March in AL. CMZ zones were created to show highs risk areas and there will be restrictions on baiting and other things in those areas as a result. Governor Ivey attended the May meeting and discussed more land conservation actions. Turkey decoys are being allowed for the youth Turkey hunt.

UDCP Report — Mike McAlpine explained that everything was pretty quiet around right now. Everyone has been happy collection revenue and there should hopefully be more to discuss next year.

Merchandise Report — Wes Patterson has sold shirts ($10), but we still need to get some more sold. We want to get new one’s next year and have some new color options. Hats have gone up in price.

Awards — Tamara Sharpe did an excellent job on awards this year. Purchased plaques and jackets for awards for the state shoots. She also did trophies for Bowmania.

Tournament Director — Daniel Blubaugh said it went well. Everyone just calls James Hornbuckle anyway!

ASA Report — James Hornbuckle handed this over to Renee to report for the meeting. There will be 6 shoots next year. No rule changes as of yet but make no promises on there not being any. Fort Benning and Kentucky shoots could be talked about moving locations but unsure at this time.

Web Master — Shane Bates asks the zone directors to please help! The zone directors have to make sure all the clubs in your zone have the correct information, so the website is helping and not hurting you. The website has been completely revamped and looks awesome! Much more user friendly and much more phone friendly!

Social Media — Katie Skinner did a great job. She is very persistent in trying to extract information about shoots. She will post weekly events will all the information needed. Chapters, please send her pictures of the ranges. Also, anyone send her pictures that you think people would like!

Tabled Proposals Read and Voted on:
• Proposal #1: BHA to purchase awards for Trail Shoot and State Championship and then the hosting chapter would purchase what they need from BHA and the new stickers for the awards. This would prevent the chapter from having left over unused awards. Presented by James Hornbuckle, 2nd Shane Bates, tabled to August. Voted and was passed!
• Proposal #2: Proposal by James Hornbuckle to merge Secretary and Treasurer into one position. Motion to accept Mike McAlpine, 2nd Wes Patterson, tabled to August. Voted and was passed!
