BHA Board Meeting Minutes
02/17/2024
James Hornbuckle welcomes everyone and calls the meeting to order.
Phil Carter says prayer.
Shane Bates reads Article II
Minutes were presented printed and posted on the website. Mike McAlpine made a
motion to accept as published. Charmen MacAlpine 2nd.
Vote – Minutes accepted as published.
Financial Report presented printed. No one had any questions. Charmin McAlpine
made a motion to accept as published. Wes Patterson 2nd.
Vote – Financial Report accepted as published.
New Chapters –
Lee County – Don Jackson will turn in club information.
Zone Reports –
Northern Zone – Jeff Boland was not present due to his club hosting shoot. All is going good,
Started out great with Heritage and looking forward to the year.
Central Zone – Sandra Patterson – Tuscaloosa getting ready, all clubs are doing good.
Southern Zone – Connie Crews – Has been in touch with all clubs, Panhandle had their
first shoot with good turnout despite the weather. Will have two new ranges for state.
Chapter Reports
Chelsea – getting ready for first shoot; range is in good shape; will be replacing cores;
working on new pavilion.
Jefferson – looking forward to the year; changes with property but planning to stay as
long as possible.
Heritage –great turn out for first shoot; few issues with reporting scores; 15 new targes;
Bow up is coming up and hosting ASA State; leaving targets set up for Practice for the
Classic
Lee County – getting everything set up
Southern Zone Chapter Reports
WCO – first shoot on 3/9/2024; Working on Range; Starting Tom Boatwright memorial
Scholarship – must be eligible for SZ SOY – more to come.
Talladega –Taking Lee County shoot in March; changing up range to get away from
hills, still excited about new place.
Blount – doing good; ready to get started; changing up range and targets.
Editor Report – Nathan Worthington – Has been meeting with clubs on their history;
planning to post for awareness
Political Report – Nathan Worthington – Conservation Advisory Board meeting coming
up in Auburn; Wildlife Management Areas have no weekend Bow hunts trying to find out
why; planning to ask at meeting; no answer on why alligator gar is not recognized
under state record for bowfishing; Don with Lee County to go to meeting and ask this
question.
UDCP Report – Nathan Worthington -Mike McAlpine has been very helpful; thinking
about removing qualifications from website and bowhunters do not understand that they
can’t just check of the items and then hunt. Possibly doing proficiency test at Bowmania
Merchandise – Wes Patterson – Still have plenty of T-shirts; can get to shoots to sell;
Charmen and Angela helping with hats.
Awards – Sandra Patterson – working on Awards – Zone Directors should reach out to
Sandra for awards; Zones can purchase through BHA and use different logos for each
Zone, can personalize and hand out and State
Tournament Director – Vacant James trying to fill, if you know someone let James
know.
ASA Report – James Hornbuckle – So far so good; changes to submitting scores;
Brandon Holland to update; BHA and AL ASA has traditional class – it will be Barebow
at Pro/Am
Web Master- Shane Bates – Working on issues posting scores; moving to new server
to speed up website, shouldn’t lose any information; working with Ginger to look into
new membership system to automate memberships, will get with Nathan to update
changes for UDCP.
Social Media – James – get information ton shoots to Katie to post on Facebook.
Include as much information as possible. Zone directors should be posting on zone
pages. Connie’s posts are really good.
Old Business: None
New Business –
Mike McApline – send a tree for Marissa instead of plan
James – Think about price increases for next year. Surrounding states have already
increased
Deer Expo in Mobile – BHA was asked to host Bowmania type even 5/10 – 5/12. –
Decided to pass.
Reminder:
NASP State Shoot – Sandra Patterson and Jeff Boland need volunteers for 4/4/2024
and 4/5/2024. James finding out new contact.
Bow-up – May 25-26, 2024, Heritage Archery Club, James cleaning up trailer; Need
help setting up. Registration is now open.
Bowmania – July 19 – 21, 2024 – BJCC – World Deer Expo Small booth upstairs by
escalator to pass out fliers and promote membership and shoot. Need kids walk around
and pass out fliers at the event. Still needs volunteers and a Committee to be responsible
for the event.
Draw Down – Will be September 7th at Pell City. Tickets will be ready in May – let Wes
know how many your club needs.
May Board Meeting – May 11, 2024, Chelsea Community Center; Bring nominations
for BHA awards, Big Buck needs to be scored by Bowmania
