Meeting was called to order by President, Johnny Carpenter at 9:09 AM. Invocation was given by Audie Edwards. Johnny Kline read Arcticle 2. Motion to accept financial report by Audie Edwards, second by George Shumway. Motion carried.
Chapter Reports:
Steve Byrd, Madison Chapter, reported that 80 people participated in the Zone Championship.
Robert Morrow, Winston Chapter, Year 2001 tournaments were finished and no new issues to report.
Larry McAfee & Elvis Pate, Tuscaloosa Chapter, Reported good turnout and participation in recent tournaments.
Bill Ziglar, Brewton Chapter, will have 2 shoots in 2001, September 15th & October 13th.
Dawsey Gibson, Monroe Chapter, reports membership up to 60 now. They will have 2 more shoots in 2001.
Randy Yeargan, Chilton Chapter, reports membership up to 50 persons. Shoots finished for 2001. Adding on to range.
Audie Edwards, Jefferson Chapter, said the Wild Game Team would participate in the AWF cookoff in Montgomery on August 26th.
Bill Shanks, Autauga Chapter, reports good turnouts for their shoots. Last shoot had 146 rounds. Autauga will have a fun day on September 1st.
Johnny Carpenter, Washington Chapter, said shoots were finished for 2001. Johnny reported that participation at the state shoot was way down. 380 shooters came this year but it was bad weather.
Committee Reports:
Johnny Gottler, IBEP, reported about a course taught for the tradition archers in early summer. Johnny said that currently 16 states require bow hunters to take the IBEP course. Next course will be video recorded for training purposes. Need to set up instructor class & get more people certified to teach the course.
Asked that Zone directors try to set up a weekend for the IBEP course.
Billy Booker, South Zone – Chester Suttle, North Zone – Martin Clough, North Zone.
Audie Edwards, Awards. Awards to be presented at the banquet.
George Shumway, Membership, reported that new life member cards had been printed.
Mark Edwards, Legislative, reported the expandable broadheads will be a topic of discussion at the next Conservation Advisory Board meeting. Currently all but two brands of expandables are illegal in Alabama.
Robert Morrow had a few examples of the illegal broadheads.
Robert Morrow, Events, discussed some issues from the ASF & Bowmania shoots. New schedule and protocol will be framed at the February 23rd, 2002 meeting.
Zone reports:
Chester Suttle was the only Zone Director present. He noted that zones 1 & 2 would be combined and they would become the North Zone.
New Business:
Larry McAfee brought up an idea to print banners for each chapter. The banners would cost $17.00 each and Pearson Archery had agreed to pay half.
Mark Griffin was present to offer a proposal to either partner with or incorporate BHA and Bow,Rod & Gun magazine. After a lengthy discussion it was the opinion of the board that we should keep our identity and current formal structure. Motion by Mark Edwards to Affiliate with B.R.A.G. was second by Johnny Gottler. Motion carried. It was also the opinion of the board that a committee should be formed to work out the details of said affiliation. Committee members will be Audie Edwards, Larry McAfee, Johnny Carpenter & Mark Edwards.
Bill Ziglar with Brewton Archery Association asked to become a new chapter of BHA. Representatives of Escambia County Chapter approved the formation of the Brewton Chapter. George Shumway made motion to accept, second by Victor Eggers. Motion carried.
Motion by George Shumway; In the future, all lifetime memberships shall be consecutively numbered. Lifetime member jackets shall have a large logo on the back. Grady McBride award winner to get a jacket with logo and lifetime membership. Second by Johnny Gottler. Motion carried.
Audie Edwards made motion that we put $700.00 toward a seed fund. Second by Johnny Kline. Motion carried.
Johnny Kline made motion to change tournament rules for junior’s stake. Change color from green to blue. Second by Doug Jackson. Motion carried.
Randy Yeargan, Justin Yeargan & Mark Edwards will go to Barbour County on October 7th & 8th to present archery & treestand safety demonstration at the regional Alabama/Florida Boyscouts Camporee.
2002 State Board meeting schedule:
February 23rd, Shoneys Inn – Clanton.
May 4th & 5th BHA rendezvous & board meeting.
ASF to be in June. Date to be announced later.
July 12th, 13th & 14th, Bowmania – Birmingham civic center.
August 10th, BHA state shoot, location TBA.
August 17th, state convention & banquet, location TBA.
2002 State Officers:
No change
Meeting was adjourned at 1:12 PM.
Next meeting to be February 23rd, 2002 at the Shoneys Inn in Clanton, Alabama at 9:00 AM.
