A new archery park will open in Chelsea on Saturday.
The park will be a unique attraction in central Alabama and free for the public to use.
The park will include three sets of targets. In addition to standard targets, there will be elevated target stands and a wooded path with 20 three dimensional targets.
Phil Carter is a park supporter who says his family will enjoy the new park and use it often.
“It gives us a place to practice,” said Carter. “To shoot competitively like we do, having a 3D range here is huge because we were having to drive to north Alabama to shoot if we didn’t have a tournament. We can go through the week now.”
Carter expects the new park to draw in people from across central Alabama.
“It’s bringing people in from around Chelsea, from Bibb County, from Chilton County, from Autauga County, we’ll have people coming here all the time on a Saturday when there’s not a tournament close, they’ll come here to shoot,” Carter added.
The city asks park users to check in at the Chelsea Community Center before using the park.
Carter says there will be an archery tournament Saturday at the park to benefit Kids Outdoors. He says you can sign up for the tournament at the park. It begins at 8 in the morning. A $20 admission cost includes lunch. Children under 12 will pay $10.
