I’ve been getting a few inquiries about having an IBEP Practical Day this Spring.
Anyone in Central or Southern Zones want to host one?
If you do, please contact me and we’ll try to get one or more set up.
Have had some health issues, so will be looking for help from the Zones or Chapters. Its not hard to put one on.
Let me know and we’ll get to work on it.

Thanks, Johnny

I need the practical as well. I am in the Autauga County club. If we have several in this area that want to go, I will be glad to drive 2 or 3 with me. Just let me know when we find out the final info. lpatterson@elmore.rr.com

Any interest in hosting a course?
Don’t wait until the last weekend before you leave to try to get an IBEP Card, ’cause its probably not gonna happen.
Every year I have folks contact me at the last minute to come up with a course. Most of the time I try to get it done, either by putting on a course or finding them one in a nearby state.
Then there are the jerks who threaten, or worse try to “buy” their card. That don’t work, either.
I have my card, along with a bunch of others, so I’m not going to loose any sleep over those that wait until the last minute.

Looking at the map of oak mtn. i downloaded from ALAPARK.COM., it looks you would take I-65 to exit 246, turn right on Cahaba valley rd ( if coming from the North), left on to State park rd go through the park gate. Continue for about 3- 4 miles or so, and you should be at the cabin area. Now as far as where exactly in the cabin area we are going , i don’t have a clue. Hopefully there will be a sign or two with some useful guidance.

I was up there not long ago & the back gate was closed.
The best bet is to take Exit 246, turn west (toward Cracker Barrel).
Turn south (parallel to the interstate) at the intersection where you could have turned north into Cracker Barrel. As you turn, there will be a gas station with a KFC on your right side.
That road will parallel I65 until it takes a turn east under I65.
You will come to a 4-way stop.
Turn left into the Oak Mountain Park.
About 2/3 mile after you turn in, you will come to the main gate.
$3 to get through the gate.
The road name is John Findley Dr inside the park. Proceed north east on Findley — for about 4 miles or so.
The cabin access road will be on the right (turn to the south east).
On your way in you will pass the stables and the golf course (both on the left — NW side of Findley).
You will also pass Terrance (leads to park offices and the backside of the park) and Tranquility (BMX track).
The next turn to the right is to the cabins.
Note: On google maps, the main drag is labeled as Oak Mountain Park Rd and the cabin access road is labeled John Findley Dr.
If you look at the DCNR interactive map off the Outdoor Alabama web site, the main drag is John Findley Dr and the cabin access is cleverly named Cabin Road.
At any rate, the cabin access road is well marked.
