I would like to see a set of rules handed out at each shoot, club and trail, that would briefly tell the shooter what is expected of them. Example: foot on marker, how long they have to shoot, how to score the shot, how many should be in a group, and so on. Not pages of rules but just enough to inform the new shooter and remind the older shooter. Also a chronograph should be setup at every shoot also to keep us all honest. I don’t think we really enforce the rules consistently which might be running some shooters away that just want to be on a level playing field. I am sure ASA and IBO enforce their rules.
What do you think?

The word pull really doesnt matter in scoreing a arrow if you just remember the fact that a arrow is scored as it is sticking in the target and has not been touch till it has been scored,if the arrow shaft of the arrow is touching the line it scores the points of the line its touching, even if after you pull the arrow out of the target any amount and then it dont touch the line it is still scored the way it was before it was moved.at less thats the why most of us has been scoreing arrows for many years, matter of fact I had never heard of the pulling the line statement till the last few year.Just my thoughts on the issue.

Chester I totally agree! I have been hearing of this pulling lines for several years but only until the new targets with soft foam appeared have I understood what the fuss is all about. The foam is so soft that arrrows are pulling the material into the target and it literally pulls the line to the arrow. Now it is plain and simple if the arrow does not touch the line it does not score the higher ring! If it sucks the line to the shaft and the line touches the shaft it is the higher score. If it just distorts the line and has meat in between; it is not scored the higher ring. The rules are plain; the shaft has to touch the ring. Why are we having this discussion like it is not plain? Scoring rings distort and are moved by other arrows and they are not always in the same places on a target. It is up to the group to call all arrows right and be fair to all. The arrow is either in or OUT! If you can not call the arrow out ;it is IN! With shot up targets this is a harder problem but it is up to the group to decide. I have been in this sport for a long time and judgement has to come into play. This does not need to be made any more than it needs to be. Don’t touch the arrows until they are scored and let your peers decide without begging for points!

Some clubs want the freedom to run their shoots as they see fit. If a club gets way out of line then they will not have many shooters and this will bring the club back to a more realistic setup of rules. It is going to be hard for the BHA to dictate how a club will conduct its local shoots unless the BHA is going to step up and fund the clubs.
Maybe most clubs will closely follow the BHA rules after all why try to come up with a new set of rules.
