I posted this on another thread, but it is worth repeating……….
While we are discussing rules…let’s get back to enforcing rules of competition…………..
A couple of infractions during a Trail Shoot or State Championship can really screw up the ol’ “Honor System”.
Just like our U.S. Senate and Congress, we (BHA) can make or pass any rules we want, but if we DO NOT ENFORCE those rules it is a waste of time.
Here are several of the rule breaking habits that need to change and rules that obviously NEED more attention and enforcing:
TIME LIMITS to shoot… 2 minutes for the first shooter, 1 minute for the other shooters in the group. ( A ZERO for the target if the time limit is violated!)
A PART of your body MUST TOUCH the SHOOTING STAKE…. that’s TOUCH, not several inches to several feet FROM the stake.
SCOREKEEPERS must score arrows BEFORE they are PULLED. The Scorekeeper MUST OBSERVE the arrow BEFORE it is pulled.
There is NO “pulling of a line”….it either TOUCHES or it does not. If there is a question, the shooters make a decision. If they cannot, the RANGE CAPTAIN is called to judge.
A shooter in COMPETITION MUST SHOOT in a GROUP for scores to count.
A PULLED arrow before it is SCORED by the scorekeeper gets a ZERO for the target.
ENFORCE the rules we have or throw all of them out ENTIRELY. If you or another shooter have broken the rules listed above, or any of the other writen BHA rules….you have CHEATED!!
This is NOT what BHA stands for or should tolerate. This is NOT what we want young shooters to learn from the “grown-ups” that they are watching and emulating!
Honest shooters NEED to report any rule-breaking. Shooters deliberately breaking the rules of competition are no better than POACHERS…TURN THEM IN!!!
If I sound serious about this…………I AM!
ENFORCE THE RULES. ETHICS is what makes us. Obey the rules.
…And it would be a good idea for ALL Chapters to post the BHA RULES at every shoot…for those who don’t know them and for those that ignore them.

The Central Zone Championship is this weekend and the BHA State Championship will be in August.
It’s going to be hot and competition should be fierce!
If you feel that rules do not apply to you, please do not compete.
If you or your group notices someone not abiding by the BHA rules, as an honest archer and ethical bowhunter, you need to bring this to the attention of officials at the event.
When you cheat, you will eventually end up shooting alone!
