I don’t know. Which counties don’t need to be included.

I saw a map in AON that showed the rut times for the different counties. Maybe this could be used to determine which counties need to have an extended season.

I am glad that you posted here. I have been checking about everyday and it seems that the BHA sites are getting very little traffic.

I just looked at the AON peak rut map and it looks like the following counties would benefit from a later season:
Macon,Montgomery, Bullock Pike, Lowndes, Butler, Crenshaw, Covington, Monroe, Conecuh, Escambia, Clark, Washington,Mobile, and Baldwin.

The peak rutting map is shown on page 11 of the December 2012 AON magazine.

I am close to burnout at the end of January every year. Laugh I have a ton of respect for the squirrel and rabbit hunters that we still have in this state. Hunting squirrel with dogs in Feb is one of my favorite pastimes. January 31st has been enough for a long time. Why do we have to continue to make drastic changes in hunting regulations on a rather frequent basis. I actually prefer the laws we had way back when you could kill a buck a day and two weeks of doe season.

I agree. Jan 31st is fine by me. But, there still seems to be many that want to change it. If it gets changed, where should the line be?

If you change it the price of a lease in those counties will go out of site because of those w.ho would hunt all year if they could. Many times these people are from out of town or state and can afford more than the average local. I see it as a mistake from many points but this one being the most destructive to local hunters
There are many ways to kill a big buck without hunting the rut. Albeit the rut makes it easier but not any more possible.

I know that many want to be able to hunt the rut. For me I don’t know if there is much of an advantage to hunting the rut.

I have been attempting to do a little rattling and estrous doe bleats and grunting and I have not seen or heard anything in the last 2 weeks. I have never had any success doing these things but if I remember correctly some on here have called in several bucks by rattling.

Trust me living way down here in Baldwin county Jan. 31st seems early. Last year I had more daylight pictures in the first part of Feb. then all of last year. I am finally going to have 2 bows because of 3d and hunting season being so close.

Down here prices and FL guys hunt more down here anyway and most who live AL go 2 Hours north

Deer know when the amount of people in the woods drops and they get back to normal. It was a lot easier for me to kill big deer before everyone went kill the does crazy. The rut dribbled all the way through the season, but even then the deer reacted to rattleing , you just had to pick the right time as dictated by present sign. I know things and times change but please believe me deer season is long enough. Ask the deer.

i do know in tennessee when it got changed from 1 doe a day to two per day, it seemed like they runnoft to a different county, i agree with Mr Waddell i killed more from 10am to 1oclock in the afterboon, cause the deer know when the hunters leave the woods for lunch except me i always carried my lunch and stay put in my stand. you see a ton of action, once all the different noises and smells leave.
