Glenn, I am going to hijack your thread a little
I represented BHA at the CAB meeting this past Saturday. The link Glenn provided is a very good article on the extended Feb. season and the changes in doe harvest for north Alabama counties. One thing it did not mention is the changes in registering your harvest for both deer and turkey. Starting with the 2013 deer season, you will be required to submit your harvest with the Alabama Department of Conservation. You can use a free web app, online, or via telephone. When you register your harvest, you will be giving a confirmation number. You will then record this number on your license. The game warden could then use this confirmation number to verify your harvest. You will have 24hrs to attain a confirmation number.
The meeting then spent several hours discussing deer hunting with dogs. I was unaware this was such a hot topic. One lady wanted the laws changed so she could keep domestic foxes as a pet.
The Alabama snapper season is going to be shortened to around 27 days. Alabama has had around 50 day seasons in the past. You can see how this will affect the economy in the gulf.
The board is working to establish a designated area that’s off limits for hunting due to supplemental feeding. Right now this law is vague at best.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

On a related note. There was a bill proposed in the Senate that will extend the dear season by 14 days statewide as a pilot program. If passed, it would trump anything the CAB proposes. Also, the current CAB proposal would delay the start of bow season by 10 days in the area that would get the 10 extension into Feb.
