I feel that the AON magazine is a plus for BHA. It is state wide advertisement for our organization and for what we pay for it is pennies vs what a yearly membership cost.
I also think that BHA can do so much with membership drives and recruit more members with the aid of the magazine. Why can’t BHA use this for advertisement like AON uses their magazine. Maybe we can not buy a truck right now, But we can come up with ideas. This is a strong organization with new members and thoughts all the time. Also I would like to add, if we are paying more for the magazine, then why can we not ask them to allow BHA members to be eligible for the big buck contest? Just a few thoughts about my input for keeping the AON magazine.

Bobby,
It really isn’t my place to answer this but. i will give my input. From listening at the last three board meetings, AON has increased their cost from $4 to $10 per year. with that increase and having to buy subscriptions for roughly 140 life members, BHA just cant afford it . I believe that the membership would need to go up at least $10 for single and family yearly memberships. it’s hard enough to get people to pay $15 a year, I understand that its a huge selling point but, you just can’t keep loosing money.
Another thing, At the last two meetings we had a total of 1 life member that said that we needed to keep the magazine. Most of us said that we hardly open it, unless it’s deer season, i will flip through mine then it goes straight in the trash. Also, the Executive board with the help of a few other people are trying to find another publication for the future.I’m sure that this topic will come up at the August meeting, I would strongly encourage anyone that has a comment on this to be at the board meeting.
Just my two cents

I read AON every month from front to back. I am a sportsman that wants to be informed about what is going on in Alabama. Obviously most BHA members are not. We, including our membership, get most of our information from Facebook or e-mails or text.
Many of our members are not “active”…and will not involve themselves in growing BHA.
In the early BHA years we developed a newsletter and sent it to each member…it got to be too expensive. Next we tried to get members to get sponsors to offset the cost of a newsletter. The members did not respond. Next we were approached by a magazine editor and for a few issues it looked like it would work…it didn’t… AON and BHA finally got together and for years we have enjoyed a good relationship. Now, we have a new crossroad to handle.
Members have got to get INVOLVED to make anything work. We have evolved into a nation that expects someone else to handle everything. We expect someone else to have ideas, solutions, membership rallies, and do the “work” to grow our organization.
How do we get to our membership and to the prospects? How do we gather the troops to get our membership to 3000…5000…?
What is the REAL price of membership? What is too much? ASA members spend a load of bucks to go to shoots all over the Southeast…why? What is the draw? Prestige, money, prizes, sponsors? Bass fishermen spend a ton of bucks for trucks, trailer, boat, motor, gear, gas, etc.
Our members get tight in the wallet when we even MENTION an increase in dues!!!
Maybe we need to really examine what our goals and expectations are for the growth of this Bowhunters of Alabama, Inc. organization.
What are WE willing to do to see BHA GROW?

Larry,
The crossroad is not as big as you think. AON has graciously offered for us to keep our page at no charge no matter what our decision on subscriptions turn out to be. We are currently looking for any and all suggestions to resolve this issue. I also encourage anyone with any input to contact me or a Board member to discuss further. Who knows it may just be your suggestion that we have not thought about and can resolve this issue for us.

As a life member I could care less about the AON magazine If it will help the BHA Organization I would be glad to have the magazine discontinued, as they went up in price with no better magazine tell them to go take a hike..
