So far this year I have received no negative comments on the extended Feb. deer season in the lower south-west corner of the state.

Here is the information that will impact your bow season:
To offset the season shift into February, Guy is proposing a gun-season-only closure in the new southwest zone that would run from Dec. 2-11, 2013.
Bow hunters in the new southwest zone will see their season open 10 days later, with a proposed season running Oct. 25, 2013 through Feb. 10, 2014.

Please use this thread to voice your opinion so BHA has an idea of how our members feel about this season change. Thanks

i think the extended season is stupid and bha should stand up and fight. why : because the bowhunters is going to loose 7days of the begining of there season AND BHA SHOULD BACK THE NRA IN FIGHTING THE GUN BILL. WHERE YOU HUNT WITH A BOW OR GUN OR CROSS BOW EVEN A SPEAR WE ALL R AFTER THE SAME THING AND THAT A FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bowhunters will have virtually the same number of hunting days. The closure is for gun-season only. Bow season will start 10 days later but will last 10 days longer.

I really do not mind the season being shifted back 10 days. However, I do not hunt in the affected area. Also, as I mentioned before, there are now 2 bills in the legislature that would add 2 weeks to the end of the season statewide. They are very simple in wording. These bills would not cut/shift days on the front of the season.

If you want to follow them they are HB367 and SB164.

You may not get a warm reception with the ADCNR since these proposed bills would override what the CAB is trying to do. I personally do not like for our hunting regulations to be set by the legislature but I am in favor of this one because it would extend the season in my area. Plus it is worded as a “pilot” program for only one year so it is not indefinite. I think the CAB is being way to restrictive with the southwest area they have defined.

for my own selfishness i wised that the CAB HAD MADEit LEGAL, for me to use my crossbow for turkey hunting , but now i have a better bow and if i had a way of going i could use my new compound after it got rurned up 5 more pounds that i might not be able to draw asfor the present archery scedule i like it, kind of cold to be bow hunting but i will manage just fine the army gave me good clothing i will be ok. i think threexcuse of hunting the rut was not that accurate i was not there i don’t know. but i do know that can be a special time to hunt during the rut i was thinking out of the many years i have been bow hunting and i have never killed a buck with a bow, now i have killed a lot of does over the years.bottomline is i am ok with it. hog killing time then anyway.maybe my luck will change and i will kill my first bow buck in alabama my home state.:)

It’s hard to vote on something like this at our board meeting.
Looks like the legislature is trying to push most of this around the CAB.
We all have opinions about hunting and can voice them…but, as I see this, much is still being discussed.
I’m sure our BHA representative will stand up for us.
