First before thinking out loud about a new award/recognition for our members, remember that the May Board Meeting is the deadline for the Bow Hunter of the Year awards (youth, male, female). I know that everyone knows someone to nominate, but yet we maybe have one or two nominees each year. Make this year different, make the board’s job of selection a difficult one, send us applications!!!
What do you think of a Master Bow Hunter award/recognition for a member to get an Alabama super slam of a deer (either sex), feral swine, turkey with bow and arrow? A grand slam could be those three plus a coyote.

i like it do the fourth species a wild card each month a diffrent animal due to the seasons they qualify as long as the odd ball is a legal in season harvest. woud be pretty cool i think. but with this up how do we find out the big animal harvest info o get that ball rolling again

Does this have to be completed within 1 year’s hunting season? May could even say a bobcat *or* coyote for the Grand Slam.

I think that no time line to complete the task would be in order. Because a “Grand Slam” would be quite significant, maybe both a bobcat and coyote should be the additional two species. This recognition should not be easy and have great respect for the accomplishment. I also think that only legal big game animals in the state be the requirement and not small game. Or maybe list small game animals on the “Super Slam” side with deer, hog and turkey.

Just a thought that came to mind. I guess like anything else, there is a bit of honesty and integrity involved in hunting. Hogs and predators are quite frequently trapped. Is there a way to ensure to the best of our ability that these 2 animals are not shot while trapped? This award is pretty cool and should be worthy of the name given to it worthy to have BHA associated with it. I would not want the award diminished by unethical acts by the hunters.

Certainly some thought will have to be given to validate the kill. Probably not a check-in scenario, as integrity has to come into play, but maybe another member, photo etc. Ideas? I really like the logo for a patch.

I would maybe like to see a patch that says ‘Alabama Super Slam’ and has a deer rack, Turkey foot with spur, and a boar head to represent the animals taken. Sounds busy but I bet maybe it can be worked out. I think something like would more likely get someone’s attention and allow for conversation about what a Alabama Super Slam is.

Mark awsome idea, would it be outside the box to consider the same idea, just tweeked alittle for kids. Maybe deer, hogs, and 1 or 2 small game. or some version.

Who hunts coyotes with a bow? I think we could do a Doe, Buck, Turkey, and a Hog. That would be a great season for anyone. Same award for men, woman, and kids.
