The 2nd Article in the BHA Constitution says this: “The purpose of this non-profit organization shall be to foster, expand and perpetuate: ” What does this means to you? Well, “foster” means to promote the growth of…..and “expand” means to increase the number of……and “perpetuate” means to make or cause to last indefinitely….
Perpetuate is what I would like to cause your attention to…You see members come and go each year….some are just temporary like that in that their interests change as the bedsheets are. They “like” archery/bowhunting but they either dont have time for it or have other commitments or whatever but it is just very shallow within them….they can take it or leave it…trouble is that if the longevity of archery depended on them it would have been all but forgotten long long ago.
But thankfully, there are those that have a full blown passion for it, such as our LIFE MEMBERS. They not only join but they also commit to passing on the legacy. BHA’s reguirement to perpetuate had the LIFE MEMBER in mind….you see it is those individuals that will continue to look after and carry the organization forward. Because you have voting privileges you have the responsibility to make sure that in 10-20 years there will be BHA. But, you not only have to make sure it exists, you also have to make sure it accomplishes the first two responsibilities: FOSTER AND EXPAND.
I encourage al LIFE MEMBERS to attend the Board Meeting coming up in Feb. Just remember…if all you did was to make sure that the organization exist in 20 years then you failed the BHA Constitution. You must also promote growth and expansion of the organization…..you do this by setting challenging goals and accomplishing them.
Think about this…in 1996 there were 800 members….in 2012 there were approx 800 members….
BTW, this message is for all individuals that take on the responsibility of an office or job for BHA, including myself..

Members- How many new members did you, personally, sign up for BHA last year?
My score was 11.
If we have 1000 members to sign up just one other this year, the math is simple- we DOUBLE our membership!
Other members have done better than my score, but are YOU doing the things to make BHA grow?

Glenn- that’s it in a nut shell, most people want to belong to a group/club/ and a lot of times they do. we asa group of archers, we can expound on that with a lot of pride. we have good members that a lot want as friends. i know when i was a biker we wore our jackets and other people see that pride and think i want to be a part of that we can do things like get in the paper be on the news, an such get real well known like backwater on the sportsman channel video some shoots put it on you=tube and TV. that will get some people to thinking hey they got it going on. i want to be a part of that! ! ! !
