I can’t remember quite how it was phrased, but when bha was originally formed something to the effect of “we need to organize now” was said. I believe I read that somewhere, but can’t find it now. Anyways, my point is this. The really active members of bha use this website. Lets use this as a platform to decide most things before the state meetings even take place. A proposed motion could be posted for all to see, it could be debated, an online poll could be conducted, someone could even be appointed to make the motion at the actual meeting, and I think there would be fewer suprises at the meetings. This isn’t some shady way to get things in through a back door, we would be putting it out there in the open for everyone to see. In the last meeting some things were voted down that a lot of you felt like we desperately needed. That doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. I’ve never seen a rule that says once something is voted down it can never be brought up again. I’ve noticed in the past that post on here seem to drop off after the tournament season ends. We have until February, 6 and a half months until our next state meeting. Tons can be done in that time. Thoughts?

I posted the motions on June 5th, 2 months before the August meeting.

I agree with you that people need to be informed. I felt as if there should have been discussion allowed at the board meeting on these motions so that everyone at the meeting could be well informed, it was not allowed.

Nobody thinks that we won’t stop trying, it is just that our organization seems to be very slow in getting crucial 3D rules changed as our membership continues to decline.

Ross, you are right. This website seems to get cobwebs after the 3-D season ends when it really should be active with hunting news and experiences from our members.
For some reason the bulk of our membership shys away from commenting on the website. Only a handful of “active” members will post.
This site has been given a new look and a new creative design from our Webmaster, Glenn, but we do not utilize it to its fullest.
A solid proof of growth would be a great increase of postings on this site from our membership. Imagine if 250-500 of our members posted weekly on this website!!

I believe that each of our officers could give updates and comments each week with their own “page”. When I used to put out the printed BHA Newsletter the front page had a section for the president titled “From Where I Sit…” It would be nice if each officer and each appointed chairperson had a place on this site to write a weekly update about progress or news in each of their areas.

BHA has been and continues to be afflicted with a social disease I call “Laccom”. That stands for lack of communication. Unfortunately, this has kept our organization from growing as it should.

There is a confession in our hymn book at church that begins: “I have not…” We “our members”…have not…have not recruited members, have not spread the word about our organization, have not involved themselves, have not helped their Chapter grow, have not volunteered, have not committed, have not been active, have not attended meetings, have not invited others to shoots…the list goes on.

The BHA Board meets only 3 times per year. That, in itself is too little to develop and execute ideas and new ways to grow our organization. This “lack of communicating” is increased by the absence of BHA Chapter representitives (ALL of them) at these meetings. Bottom line…if we (BHA) cannot get committments from our own Chapters to grow and reach out to new prospective members, how can we grow?

Some of our Chapters and members and officers have done, and continue to be faithful and dutiful members that put their all in BHA. They are to be hailed and lifted up by the membership, but more than that, the MEMBERS should make committments to growth.

Some 60,000 hunters in Alabama bow hunt. We can only reach out to them by communicating and developing NEW ideas for growth.

We do have a tool that I would like for the LEADERS of BHA to utilize that it has not had in the past. I can and have been sending out mass eBulletins to all online members. For LEADERS I am referring to BHA officers, staff, directors, zone directors and chapter presidents…you know…the movers and shakers of this organization.

I have been sending out eBulletins in order to COMMUNICATE news and activities about BHA so that involvement will increase and members will rejoin because they feel a part of the organization.

Currently this is a text only just to keep it simple and easy for me to generate as often as i can. I don’t mind doing it weekly, monthly, special occassions, or whenever there is a need to. It goes to ALL MEMBERS REGISTERED ONLINE.

The lack of communication problem is an EASY fix. I don’t mind sending out an eBulletin as often as is needed. Sometimes it may be needed twice in one week, ya never know.

With this post,, if there is no communication about the news, events, rulings, whatever….it is because of the failure of the LEADERS of this organization.

All you have to do is email me with “eBulletin” in th subject line. Then write what you want to include and then I will review it and ask for any clarification from you if needed and include it in the next BHA eBulletin.

If you have something that needs to be discussed heavily on the BHA Forum then you can promote discussing it on the forum with the eBulletin. Make sure members know that it has been posted on the forum and your looking for input. If you want to promote your chapter I would love to include your news, meetings, activities, etc. on the eBulletin. We can do polls and surveys also…..Zone Directors…send me what you want to send to your zones….If you are expecting the Chapter Presidents to disseminate info to thier members your probably sadly mistaken….many don’t even care enough to have chapter meetings so their members stay uninformed….harsh statement but it is true. All i heard from chapter presidents that attended the the board meeting was “well, our membership is a little down” or “attendance to the 3D tournaments dropped a little from last year”. geez….what did you do….put it on the calendar and expect everyone to show up and be thrilled!!!! and What is Insanity?

The following users say thank you to BHA Webmaster for this useful post:

Great post, Glenn….and very “on target”.
We (BHA) cannot DO what needs to be done for the PROGRESS and GROWTH of BHA until we all get on board. That is….communicate.
We putt along year after year without creating “TEAMS” to handle projects that could move us out of this rut and become a powerful and more effective organization that creates opportunities for …organized hunts and camp-outs and sponsored events that draw archers and bow hunters to compete and win door prizes.
We have a sponsor, AON Magazine that puts on the Truck Buck Contest each year and it has grown large (they give away a CHEVROLET pickup!!!)!
INVOLVEMENT begins with organization. I’ve preached this for years and it has fell on deaf ears. TEAMS that are formed by our Executive Board consisting of qualified team members can move us into the future and grow this organization….Build the team and give a direction and goal for that team and volunteers will get it done.
IF we do NOT have the VOLUNTEERS to step up, we will wither.
As I said many times before….IF EACH MEMBER BROUGHT ONE NEW MEMBER TO BHA WE WOULD DOUBLE IN OUR SIZE….Our members have NOT done that….WHY?
Let the excuses begin….
If we TRULY want to make BHA an important and worthy organization that offers each member an OPPORTUNITY and NEEDED SOURCE of hunting, recreation, education, conservation and competition events, we must organize TEAMS with specific goals and purpose.
YOU ARE BHA….WHAT are YOU doing to give potential members a REASON to join BHA?
