Hey there everybody. I’m new to archery and living in Tuscaloosa. Just joined the Tuscaloosa chapter this year and can’t wait for the shoots to start. While I’ve for your attention I wanted to see if anyone knows of good public land to hunt hogs on right now. I have been reading articles and they say Sipsey and Seven Mile wildlerness areas are overrun with hogs. I have a big game hunting license, I’m assuming I need a WMA license too? Is archery equipment legal during small game season? Thanks for the help y’all.

I usually hunt hogs on the loundes WMA with #4 3-1/2 shells, but now that I have a bow ive been wanting to give it a shot on some hogs. I know a bunch of people hunt them with crossbows and broadheads on the off season in Lowndes but as to the legality im not sure? Are broadheads illegal statewide? The game warden around there is somewhat unpredictable when it comes to enforcing rules so he may very well just be looking the other way. The hog rules always seemed ridiculous to me. By allowing ppl to use birdshot and rimfire only, they are creating a very dangerous situation imo as not all people can hit the right spot consistently…sorry for completely hijacking the thread but ill call the lowndes wma and get verification and get back to yall bc it is packed with hogs and is a great place to hunt them as long as you have snake boots! !

Will,
if people are hunting them with crossbows and broadheads on Lowndes WMA, I assure you the officials are not looking the other way. They are just lucky they have not been caught. What are you getting verification on? You can only hunt hogs on the WMA with whatever weapon/ammo is legal at the time for other game species. It sounds as if you already know this.
