I am sure some of you know that my brother and I have started Alabama Hog Control, Inc. We are a hog eradication business. And as such the vast majority of our hunts are gun hunts. But, I will take some good bowhunters from time to time just because I know what a huge thrill it is to hunt hogs that way with a bow.
Here is my advice/checklist on spot and stalking hogs.
Keep a wind checker on you at all times.
Face paint
Believe it or not, a black shirt really helps.
Range finder.
Study a pigs body and kill zone, very different from a deer.
Wear a side arm if you have one.
Quiet snake boots
Therma Cell is a must
Be ready for the extreme rush
Strong arrows with good sharp broadheads
Bring your “A” game as far as stalking goes.
The average pig is around 80 lbs.
For night stand hunting it is very different. But, that is whey the really big boys come out. If you are looking for a throphy, that is when you need to hunt.
Therma Cell
and a good broadhead on your arrows will do the job.

barry when i am able to get around good i woul dlike to bring my barnett jackal shooting my excalibur bolt cutter broad heads to get a hog i hope that will be by no later than this fall.the jackal has 95 foot pound of kenetic energy. the boltcutter bh are 150 grain stainless steel b.h. i put them on carbon express surge arrows that weigh 442 grain. for the 20″ for a total weight of 592 grain traveling at 315 fps. i hope it will be enough to get thru the shield on a hog.

i used to think when i buy new muzzy broadhead that they are sharp check them out i have found some dull ones that i touched them up to shave sharp. even my grim reapers needed touching up. all sst blades will get dull over the winter they don’t hold an edge good over time. sharpen before you go hunting.
