Understand Kenny….I probably left out what the other sites will contain. What I currently want to do is to build a basic template and most will be pretty static if they want to or they can really manage the website after I build it and add text and stuff all they want. I will only build it and because I use Wordpress they can easily manage it any way the want to. I will help them as much as they want but my main focus is BHA’s site. I am simply magnifying the visibility as much as possible at the lowest potential cost.

ALDeer, ArcheryTalk took awhile to get that size. I really need BHA members contributing articles, videos and photos to help add content. I know that we are a bowhunting organization but that only makes up about 4 or so months of they year. We are also a 3D Tournament “Bowunting style” organization which makes up 6 months of the year. I don’t want people to think that we are a sublevel of ASA or IBO…I wouldl like to see BHA to develop a 3D Tournament style that BHA owns and is desirable for “bowhunters” to come to. I think every BHA Chapter shoot should be like Marshall County level of difficulty which is geared to bowhunting. I know it will drive target shooters away but it will only make them better target shooters in the long run. It will also make us better bowhunters if the course is really challenging. I really enjoy Marshall County’s torunament and really hated to hear that they were moving to a tamer course. I think it is the wrong move but what do i know…lol….this is just my opinion….it we are a bowhunting organization then the 3d tournaments aught to refect that. Yes we will lose some but if we start aggresive marketing and add some fun to the shoots then we can in the long run be very successful and also be true to who we are. Again….if BHA wants to mimic ASA then that is fine with me…i will shoot and enjoy everyone of the chapters courses.

BTW, i know your heart and you meant well with your comments so don’t worry about that stuff…..there are many that can do that because I know they are passionate about BHA and committed to it’s success. Scottie, Kevin, Mark, Clete, and many others fit that bill.

Kenny, as far as your last topic reply I gleemed the following from it:

1. Create content that is useful to bowhunters that will attract them all year around and not just during the 3d season.
2. Increase HUGELY active forum particiants so archery related posting content gets richer and richer to motivate members to return actively all year long.
3. Make our Classified Section become a valuable resource for our members.

I greatly agree with all three. The difficulty is that we are a fairly new forum since we lost all content of the old forum. I am afraid that this will take awhile to build it which keeps people from frequenting the forum. ArcheryTalk has writers and contributors that boost content. They also have a crap load of video instruction content as well as actual hunting videos’

Right now as I type this, there are 208 signed in to ALDeer and four for BHA forum. Will this change? Probably not as fast as we want. We do have visitors but they are mostly looking for content and scores. We have scores but not content. This wll have to come from our leaders….President, Vice President, Zone Directors and Chapter Presidents and their VP’s and of course me. I tried asking someone that shoots ASA/IBO level competively to allow me to video tape them providing shooting instructions and tips and techniques. We also need on all types of bowhunting topics. People want content that is helpful. We don’t have it and they aren’t coming. It is easy to do…takes a little time but we can do it.

Consider this…..we could use 4 or 5 great 3D tournament shooters and video tape 2-3 minute segments for BHA-TV for each of them while at a 3D tournaments over the next few weeks. Also setup good bowhunters who can do a very short video on how to bowhunt…..create 3-5 short videos and now you have about 8-10 instructional videos-content for people to come and see. yes, it will not be easy and take a little time. but if we don’t start doing we will never attract anyone to our website or forum…why should they come if we don’t care about it either. I am posting and adding to the website as much and as fast as i can but I REALLY need the leadership as described before to help. I am not talking about posting comments on the forum..I meant adding content (whatever you can) to the website. You can visit a archery store and talk to one of the experts there in bows and maintenance and ask them if we can video tape one of their experts with important instruction and to add to our website and give them and their store credit on it…gives us content and promotes them…win win. Ask a vendor such as Hunter Saftey System or Summit Treestands to contibute a video on treestand safety. Ask another retail store who carries Hoyt bows to talk about the 2014 line of bows they are carrying, pros and cons and best uses for them, etc. Video tape a hog bowhunting trip for Alabama Hog Control. He must include tips and equipment and we will provide him credit. Have one of the archery stores that specialize in bowhfishing contribute bowhing video footage describing how to get into it and equipment and skills needed. video tape how to sharpen knives (actually i was going to do this one). I would LOVE a video tape with a woman talking about getting into bowhunting or 3D. or a family talking out how great an activity it is for the family to be involved with…TONS of topics.

Look at ALDeer and ArcheryTalk and see what u like to look at when you go there. most likely that is the content everybody else woud like to see. I really am asking you to do this since you are so familiar with it… Then reply on this forum topic what they are. They that is the content that we need to focus on first. The readers will add the other content they are interested in.

We simply just have to have attractable content. All i can do is create the forum….I will add as much as I can..but I need the leadership to kick in…….I AM NOT IMPLYING THAT YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING! I just answering your reply as to who really needs to help build it. If the leadership wants BHA to be the “it” for bowhunting then we have to create the “it” first. There are no shortcuts….takes lots of patience….lots of hours….but can you imagine what it will look like when we get there.

We need to sit down as leadership and prepare a FIVE YEAR PLAN that identifies goals and action items over the next fives years. We Must CREATE the 12 RING first…Then we must identify all we need to do to get there. the more we can spread the load the easier and faster we can make it happen. If only a few are going to make it happen then lets fold up shop now and save all of ourselves a lot of grief….We have a LOT of talent and intelligence within the organization. We can easily achieve what ever we want BHA to be.

This website should be a chatterbox!!
We have members that do not utilize this site…we have members that do not promote BHA…we have members that seem to only go to shoots.
Just like other organizations, we have a few folks that are “movers and shakers” the others are not motivated.
Welcome to the “ME” generation.
The reason I no longer teach college students and retired is because each day before class I had to ask myself “What can I do to MOTIVATE my students to learn”. And then it dawned on me- I should not have to MOTIVATE them I should be using my time to TEACH them. Unfortunately, you cannot teach people if they have no motivation, no desire, and no yearning to step out of their comfort zone.
Look at the stats at the bottom of this page.
195 Members have signed on…pitiful.
Look at the top posters…Where are all our members? Some look but don’t involve themselves in the discusions. WHY?
Most users EVER online…33!!!!!!!!!!
Zone Directors- CALL your Chapter presidents and ask them and their members to SUPPORT this site and COMMUNICATE. To get INVOLVED. To TEACH. To RECRUIT NEW BOWHUNTERS. To VOLUNTEER. To SUPPORT NASP. To ADVERTISE. To GET SPONSORS. To GO TO CHAPTER SHOOTS. To BE A LEADER.
To PARTICIPATE in the growth of BOWHUNTERS OF ALABAMA, Inc.
What will it take to get people motivated? Maybe if the government wanted to take your bow away….Sure worked for the NRA!
We FINALLY have a GREAT website………….USE IT!!

Glenn,
I do understand the website is new and thus, still growing but we had the same issue on the old site. I do not think the issue is with the website(old and new), I think it with the members of this organization. I think Larry nailed it in his post. That is the sad truth of it. I really don’t understand it. Maybe it is due to the fact that the perception of BHA statewide is that we are a 3D organization and not hunting organization. We need to change that. I think the idea of the Grand Slam award is huge step in the right direction. If we adopt the award, we need to promote it throughout the state not just at our board meeting. We need to promote that at the Buckmasters and other expos like it.

I also have to say I love the idea of the instructional videos that you mentioned. We are stupid if we do not pursue that idea. In fact, it would be great if we could get a volunteer to take that under their wing and get it started ASAP.

Let me put this in perspective…..On Facebook I post images and some text and I usually get about 50-100 to look at it and 1 or 2 people comment…I posted the Video that I shot at the Blount County Shoot about the 22″ ATA bow……we had 855 viewers of that video!!! We only had 308 of our friends see it but they shared it with another 500 non-BHA friends that viewed it!!! I did not even have anything about BHA on it! I missed out on an opportunity to promote BHA because I did not think!!!!
